The Panama canal Frederic J 18721944 Haskin 9781176970632 Books Reviews
"The Panama Canal" [1913] by Frederick J. Haskin was written about a year prior to the opening of the Panama Canal (August 15, 1914) and is a very detailed, contemporary account of this historic undertaking. Excellent pictures of the construction site, equipment, plans, and key players associated with the canal's development, Haskin's well-written work emphasizes the actual building of the canal, though it is perhaps a little light on the politics and international intrigue surrounding this world altering event when compared to McCullough's, "The Path Between the Seas," but a highly satisfying experience for any history buff nonetheless. Read them both.
Not what I was looking for. Technically it is illustrated but only a few pictures. Many picture titles in the ebook, but no pictures (. I returned it for a refund.
Older book bur interesting from perspective of 100 years ago. Quaint style not well edited but shows older attitudes among US citizens at time of Canal construction.
Before the Canal even opens, the author writes the Canal will need expansion once the US population reaches about 300 million. Today we have about 330 million people and the expansion is complete in 2016!
Very well written history about the people of Latin America, previous countries' attempts building an Isthmus canal, and how we got involved with the Panama Canal. A+ in every way and you can't beat the price!
Written from a pre-WWI perspective.
